Sheraton Doha set for renovation
Katara Hospitality has said that a major renovation and refurbishment of the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel will commence from today. It is expected to be reopened in December this year.
However, the hotel’s Dafna Hall will remain in operation until April 4 and events currently booked at the venue will be hosted as planned.
Aiming to modernise the property and its facilities, the investment will see the full renovation of all guestrooms, public areas, recreation facilities and the conference and meetings space. The hotel’s food and beverage offer will also be enhanced.
A spokesperson from Katara Hospitality said: “This is a strategic decision for enhancing the offering of one of Doha’s most relevant hospitality venues. When the Sheraton Doha re-opens in December 2014, it will strengthen its position as Doha’s most iconic property, with the highest standards of luxurious and modern facilities in all aspects of its operations.”
Katara Hospitality said that all customers with bookings would be offered alternative options at one of the company’s other Doha properties. Mumbai real estate firm in Doha to promote projects
Representatives of Mumbai developer Wadhwa Group are in Qatar to promote their current projects, which include Evergreen Heights, Kalwa The Address, Ghatkopar West, Anantya, Chembur, Platina, Thane and Anmol Fortune, Goregaon West. The units are priced between Rs6.9mn and Rs50mn.
Saurabh Phull, a senior manager, said out of five projects, we are offering two projects in the pre-launch stage Anmol Fortune, Goregaon West and Anantya, Chembur.
People looking for smaller configuration could look for two projects - Solitaire/Platina in Kolshet Road Thane and Evergreen Heights at Kalwa, Thane. Both projects offer 1BHK and above with a special no floor rise offer with Solitaire, Thane.

Qatar praises IAEA role in nuclear safety
The State of Qatar has reaffirmed the pivotal role the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been playing in the field of nuclear safety.
Qatar’s representative on the IAEA Board of Governors Ambassador Dr Ahmed Hassan al-Hammadi, made the remarks at the spring session of board held in Vienna.
The session discussed enhancing IAEA’s activities related to nuclear safety.
In his speech, al-Hammadi said Qatar is seeking to establish a network to help it implement its commitments and to reassure the international community, especially the regional neighbouring countries on its nuclear security system.
He stated that Qatar commended IAEA’s pivotal role and efforts to enhance member-states’ emergency preparedness and response capabilities because of the threats posed by nuclear and radiation accidents. He said Qatar calls on countries that have nuclear facilities, especially in the Middle East region, to join the international conventions on nuclear security.
Minister meets prime minister of Saint Kitts
HE the Minister of Economy and Trade Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim al-Thani yesterday met the Prime Minister of the twin-island Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas and his accompanying delegation. Discussions during the meeting dealt with ways of strengthening the trade relations between the two sides, as well as developing investment opportunities through closer contacts between the private sector in both countries in order serve their common interests.
Chief of Staff holds talks with Turkish, Pakistani officials
HE Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim yesterday met the chief of administrative affairs of the Turkish army General M. Edel. Discussions during the meeting dealt with issues of common interest . The meeting was attended by Assistant Chief of Staff for the Administrative Affairs Major General Thani bin Jassim al-Thani, and the Charge d’affaires of the Turkish embassy in Doha.
HE the Chief of Staff also met Major General Farooq Rashid, chairman of the Pakistani talks Committee.
The meeting dealt with topics of mutual interest. The meeting was attended the military attache at the Pakistani embassy in Doha.
Talks to boost human rights co-operation
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay met in Geneva yesterday with Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, on the sidelines of meetings of the 25th session of the Human Rights Council, currently being held in Geneva from March 3 to 28.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with ways to enhance co-operation between the State of Qatar and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as human rights developments on the regional and international levels.
HE Sheikh Mohamed stressed Qatar’s keenness on maintaining a high level of co-ordination and co-operation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the rights council.
Qur’an lecture
Abdul Malik Mujahid, the managing director of Darussalam International Islamic books publishing house, will deliver a lecture on Qur’an in Urdu today at Maktabat Sheikh Ahmed bin Hajar opposite Meera Cooperative in Bin Omran. The lecture will be held after Isha prayer.
