Berlin: Spanish football legend Raul is looking forward to watching former clubs Real Madrid and Schalke clash in the Champions League today but insists he wants both to do well.
“I’m enjoying the comfortable position of being able to cheer on both teams,” he told the Schalke club magazine.
Asked who he would rather play for, he responded with the diplomatic answer of Schalke for the first leg in Germany, Real for the second leg in Spain.
But Raul revealed he does think Schalke could struggle to live with the ability of the Spanish giants and was full of praise for world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.
Schalke must “go over their limit. Every player on the field must bring 120 per cent and reach their full potential. He (Ronaldo) is in the strongest phase of his career and scores in nearly every game. His performance and consistency simply stand out.”
Raul played for Real Madrid from 1994-2010 before moving to Schalke until 2012. Since then he has played for Al Sadd Sport Club in Qatar.
