Soccer fans in Qatar can now get high-definition (HD) videos of European leagues after Ooredoo implemented a new sports contribution network for beIN SPORTS.
Determined to integrate and deploy the contribution network, Ooredoo forged a partnership with European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the world’s foremost alliance of public service media
organisation.
“This development will enhance the quality of HD videos shared by Paris and Doha that will be broadcast across the station’s diverse range of channels,” Ooredoo said in a
statement.
Using the new international network, beIN SPORTS will transmit HD coverage of the major European leagues that it has exclusive rights to direct from studios in Paris, including Spanish La Liga, the French Ligue 1 and the Italian Serie A.
“The new infrastructure will significantly improve the quality of the viewing experience for sports fans around the world, improving signal continuity, providing higher resolution and ensuring loss-less transmission, so that viewers do not miss a minute of their favourite matches,” Ooredoo said.
Mohamed al-Subaie, executive director, beIN Media Group, said: “The launch of the sports contribution network has gone very smoothly with the full support of Ooredoo.”
“Our new network solution will enable us to deliver the very best high-definition coverage of the most exciting European matches live and direct to our viewers’ homes. This world-class network implementation is another indication of our ambition to be the world’s leading sports
broadcaster,” Subaie added.
Mohamed al-Marri, chief sales and service officer at Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo continues to work with Qatar’s leading brands to enable them to enhance and extend their services for customers in Qatar and around the world. This latest implementation, which has seen beIN SPORTS deploy one of the world’s most advanced high-definition network links between Paris and Qatar, places the broadcaster at the top of the global premier league of sports coverage providers.”
European Broadcasting Union (EBU) director of network Graham Warren said that EBU has utilised ‘Net Insight’ technology to guarantee
“loss-less” routing.
Warren added that the technology provides enhanced capabilities to control the quality of service.
“In close co-operation with Ooredoo we provided a large bandwidth and highly resilient extension to the ‘EUROVISION’ fibre network into Doha that can support the very latest high definition standards. One of the benefits is that ad-hoc services can be enabled easily through our own developed network management system which, in conjunction with the rest of the solution, is essential for the high pressure environment of international sports broadcasting,” Warren said.
Qatar-based beIN SPORTS has the exclusive broadcasting rights in the Middle East for major football leagues. The station will aggregate all French Ligue 1 sports production through Paris and transmit the video content over the media contribution network, based on Net Insight’s Nimbra platform.
