The third emergency management training workshop under the aegis of the Permanent Committee for Emergency (PCE) Qatar and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was opened at the Sheraton Doha on Sunday.

The inaugural session was attended by Staff Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, Director-General of Public Security and Chairman of PCE Qatar; Nabil Othman, Regional Representative of UNHCR for GCC; and Dr Adnan al- Tamimi, Chairman of the Co-operation Council Centre for Emergency; along with officials from other departments.

Staff Maj Gen al-Khulaifi said PCE Qatar is committed to do its best to train national cadres as well as institutions of the State to deal with any challenge effectively.

Othman highlighted the distinctive role played by Qatar in humanitarian aid wherever necessary. He also talked about the losses suffered by refugees at various levels and the importance of UNHCR in providing support to these people.

Brig Hamad al-Duhaimi, Director of the Operations Department at Civil Defence, said the lectures and practical guidelines lined up for the third training session were approved by expert trainers from UNHCR.

Officials from UNHCR emphasised the importance of training, both at the theoretical and practical levels.

A camp will be set up at Zikrit to give practical training to participants. The conditions of refugees and refugee camps will be simulated at the camp and the participants will be required to provide assistance to the “needy”.

The workshop will conclude on February 26.
