Noted Qatari technocrat and GreenGulf CEO Omran al-Kuwari has been recognised as a Solar Pioneer at an award ceremony on the sidelines of the recent 2014 World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
The Middle East’s pre-eminent renewables trade body - Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) hosted the award ceremony for their first inaugural Solar Pioneers Programme to recognise leading figures in the industry from across the region.
Al-Kuwari and GreenGulf were recognised alongside leaders from other major organisations such as King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable, First Solar and Enviromena among others.
The awarded individuals were chosen based on their expertise and experience against four core criteria - leadership, impact, innovation and long term vision goals. The awards platform is designed to provide the leaders more exposure and an opportunity to network and benefit from each other’s shared experiences.
The selection of the top pioneers was made by a panel of international judges drawn from across the Middle East and selected jointly by MESIA and PwC. The panel included CEOs, UN dignitaries, and former ministers.
“Omran is an inspiration to all of us. For over five years he has been a trail-blazer in the region’s solar sector, quietly rising to become the best known and most widely respected ambassador of solar in Qatar,” said Vahid Fotuhi, president of MESIA.
GreenGulf is a Qatar-based advisory and development company for renewable energy and clean technologies. It was launched in 2008.
