The Bangladesh prime minister spent 1mn taka for contesting the 10th parliamentary election held on January 5, according to her account of expenditure submitted to the election commission (EC).
Sheikh Hasina filed the account as president of the Awami League.
The account of the prime minister’s expenditure was submitted to EC secretary Mohammad Sadiq on Thursday, a day before the expiry of the deadline. Hasina had contested from the Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6 constituencies.
She was allowed by law to spend up to 3.7mn taka for campaigning in the two constituencies.
Her polls agent Mohammad Abdullah submitted the account.
Hasina had spent nearly 498,700 taka for the Rangpur-6 constituency and around 500,000 taka for the Gopalganj constituency during campaigns. A contestant was allowed to spend up to 2.5mn taka on the polls, 8taka on each voter.
The Rangpur-6 and Gopalganj-3 constituencies have 473,000 voters which means Hasina could have spent up to 3.7mn taka on campaign.
In the ninth parliamentary polls, Hasina had spent 500,000 taka for campaigning in the Rangpur-6 constituency. At that time, the campaign expenditure ceiling was 1.5mn taka.
