The regional preparatory meeting for the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (UNCCPCJ) concluded in Doha on Wednesday.
The third-day session focused on discussions on the clauses of the Congress agenda in addition to a number of associated papers. The meeting was held in preparation for the 13th UNCCPCJ, which is scheduled to be held in Doha in 2015.
Major General Dr Abdullah Yusuf al-Mal, legal adviser to HE the Minister of Interior and chairman of the preparatory committee, said the meeting was a success on account of the co-operation of the participating delegates and positive discussions that led to a final agreement on the recommendations.
He further said the launch of the Doha 2015 website by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani a year ahead of the conference was a significant occasion and it would help provide important information and services related to the Congress.
Abdul Latif al-Deribi, adviser of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Yemen in Vienna, said the primary objective of the meeting was to make preparations for the Congress on Crime Prevention, in addition to ensuring co-ordination among countries in the region, come up with recommendations and proposals that can be blended with the analyses made in other regional meetings so as to have a unified vision before the Congress in 2015.
The delegates who participated in the preparatory meeting affirmed that it was highly useful in the context of preparations for the 13th UNCCPCJ, adding that the issues discussed were of great importance as they related to successful programmes in the implementation of policies and strategies, comprehensive crime prevention and criminal justice in order to strengthen the rule of law at the national and international levels.
All the delegates praised the role of Qatar and its success in hosting conferences in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice systems as well as its political and logistical support, which involved the launch of a website, offering help and answering queries on the conference.
