Olatokunbo Ayeni and Adnad Hodzic impressed in Al Arabi’s mammoth 100-57 victory over Qatar Club in the playoff of the Qatar Basketball League at Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
Ayeni scored a match-best 27 points with 10 two-pointers, two three-pointers and two assists, while Hodzic scored 24 points with 10 two-pointers and an assist among his exploits.
The other Arabi players who got into double figures were William Byrd (13) and Mansour Elhadary (11).
For Qatar Club, Melquan Bolding played the entire 40 minutes scoring 24 points, while Chauncey Leslie pitched in with 17 points. But their efforts went in vain as Qatar Club consistently fell behind their opponents throughout the match.
In the other match of the day, Mohamed Mokhtar Ghayaza led Al Khor to a 75-70 win over Al Wakrah.
Ghayaza scored 23 points with 10 two-pointers, three free-throws and three assists. Others to pitch in for Al Khor were Jamarr Hardy (19), Ahmed Osman (12) and Marquis Jones (11).
Their efforts meant that Khor led throughout the match.
Kenneth Wilson’s match-best effort of 27 points could not save Al Wakrah from a defeat. Wilson’s performance included seven two-pointers, three three-pointers, four free-throws and four assists.
For Wakrah, others who got into double figures were Hondre Brower with 21 points and Abdelrahman Osama with 13 points.
Tomorrow, Al Gharafa will take El Jaish in the only match of the day at 6pm.
