Aspire Zone is gearing up for a season of fun - community-inspired sports events designed to encourage families to lead more active lifestyles.
Its annual Doha Jam basketball tournament, the Torch Staircase Run, a 50km ultra-marathon, the Aquathon and a five-a-side football league are all set to take place in the weeks ahead.
As a member-organisation of Aspire Zone Foundation, Aspire Logistics is constantly seeking new and innovative ways to shape a healthy, sports-loving society.
Doha Jam, Qatar’s premier street basketball tournament, will be back on February 22. Sixteen amateur teams will go head-to-head in this three-on-three competition. Those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up quickly.
For the third consecutive year, residents will have the opportunity to scale the staircase of The Torch Doha. The annual Torch Staircase Run will take place on March 29 and see participants race up 1,304 steps to the summit of the tower.
The world’s top three male and female tower runners will be taking part, setting the fastest times for contestants to aim for. Registration for the event is set to open soon.
For the first time in Doha, Aspire Logistics is hosting a 50km ultra-marathon. The Aspire International 6:50 is set to take place on March 6.
Featuring a 5km circuit, runners will need to complete 10 laps in order to achieve the full distance. An increasingly popular sport, ultra-marathons are designed to push participants’ physical and mental strength to the limit. Registration is open to men and women aged 18 years and above. Registration for the Aquathon is also open. The next two races, which will take place on March 1 and March 22, mark the end of the 2013/2014 edition of the popular series. Each race features a run around Aspire Park and a swim in the Aspire Dome pool. It is open to all members of the community aged eight years and above.
In addition, last weekend marked the launch of Aspire Zone’s weekend football league. The five-a-side round-robin tournament will see 12 teams compete in blocks of eight weeks, with matches taking place every Friday evening and Saturday morning.
