Separate lanes will be allocated for public buses to speed up service, local daily Arrayah has reported.
“This measure will be implemented for the first time along Salwa Road starting from the Radisson Blue Hotel before introducing it on other routes,” the daily quoted the Minister of Transport HE Jassim Seif ahmed al-Sulaiti as saying.
The minister said the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is preparing designs of the project which aims at easing the way for buses so that passengers reach their destination quickly, adding that the plans would yield results after two or three years.
He said the ongoing new roads and transportation networks projects would further ease the traffic problems.
The minister said the solutions for the traffic problems will be radical and permanent. “Other means for solving the issue of traffic snarl is the railway network now being developed and awareness campaigns to spread the culture of using public means of transportation,” the minister said.
