The Hamad Medical Corporation has received three different awards in recognition of its exceptional healthcare services at the seventh edition of the Arab Health Innovation and Achievement awards 2014 held recently in Dubai.
One of the three awards ‘Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician Award’ was won by the corporation’s Ambulance Service deputy medical director Dr Ibrahim M Fawzy Hassan.
Dr Hassan is also the Hamad General Hospital’s Critical Care Board of Directors chair and Medical Intensive Care Unit director as well as the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar’s assistant professor of Medicine and Genetic Medicine.
Other awards won by HMC were Excellence in Radiology and Excellence in Patient Centred Care which went to the Radiology Department and Cancer Transformation team, respectively.
Cleveland Clinic Global Health Centre chairman Bill Ruschhaupt, who is the judging panel chair, explained that the criteria for selecting a nominated candidate include: medical acumen, leadership, dedication to excellence and quality care, empathy and compassion in all aspects of care, commitment to continuing medical education, and research efforts.
“Cleveland Clinic is pleased to once again honour a young physician who displays not only leadership, but also compassion for patients,” Dr Ruschhaupt said, adding: “We are honoured to be a part of the Arab Health Awards, and plan to utilise this forum in the future so that we can continue to honour our industry’s future leaders.”
As this year’s winner, Dr Hassan will receive the opportunity to observe clinical operations at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus in the US for one week, hosted and sponsored by the organisation’s Centre for International Medical Education in collaboration with Informa, the organiser of the leading Arab Health Congress.  
Marking its seventh year, the Arab Health Innovation and Achievement Awards held alongside the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, which concludes today, continues to honour exceptional healthcare professionals across the Middle East.
Nine awards were presented to highlight the region’s growth and achievements in the healthcare field with Saudi Arabia and Qatar emerging as the region’s front runners taking home seven out of the nine awards.
The judging panel was made up of internationally recognised experts including Health Management and Policy American University of Beirut, Accreditation Canada Dr Fadi el-Jardali; founder and president Emeritus of ECRI Dr Joel J Nobel; the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards acting chief executive Dr Lena Low; Joint Commission International Middle East International Office managing director Ashraf Ismail; and Munich Health Daman Holding Business Development and Projects director Jan Schmitz-Huebsch.
