Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr, a part of Al Jazeera Network, is set to be relaunched with a new outlook and content, Al Jazeera officials announced yesterday in Doha.

“Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr represents a very important media platform on the Egyptian issue. It is also a big window to all that is happening in Egypt. So, we have enhanced both its content and outlook for better coverage,” Dr Mustafa Sawaq, acting general manager of Al Jazeera Network, said at a press briefing.

He said Al Jazeera has always stood by the Arab uprising and promoted the cause of the people. He further stressed that Al Jazeera adopts objective and unbiased standards while covering news everywhere and is keen to maintain professional integrity in all its activities.

“All who work under the umbrella of Al Jazeera have to maintain such principles,” he said.

Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr director Ayman Jaballa said the channel would continue to promote and defend the cause of the people. He added that it would continue to be broadcast from Doha with its various correspondents in Egypt.

Asked if this posed a risk for the correspondents, he said serious media work involved certain challenges. Further, the channel is open for the Egyptian people to voice their concerns through various means of communication, including social media.

“We are prepared to launch a collection of new programmes that target different categories of people and directly address their concerns. For instance, there is a programme about farmers, a category of people that has never got adequate media attention, besides other news programmes,” said Jaballa.

Dr Alla Sadiq, renowned Egyptian sports commentator, has joined Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr with his newly-launched programme, Politics in Sports. The programme will address the influence of politicians and political life on sports and sporting events.

Dr Sadiq expressed happiness to be part of the Al Jazeera team and said the network has gained great respect throughout the world.

On the detention of Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt, Dr Sawaq said the network is providing them with all the necessary support and has urged the Egyptian authorities to release them as the charges against them, according to him, are politically motivated. He also said he would welcome resumption of operations in Al Jazeera offices in Egypt if the Egyptian government allowed it.
