The Workforce Department  at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has organised an “open professional day” for the banking sector to provide job opportunities for Qataris (both men and women) who hold secondary school certificates and university degrees as well as those who have experience.

The day, which also aims to provide opportunities for scholarships and training, was attended by 12 leading banks in Qatar.

HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi, who attended the event, said the day showcases the interest of Qatar in the banking sector, which is an important arm in the country’s economy.

In remarks to reporters, HE al-Khulaifi pointed to the role of the ministry towards the private sector, which includes the regulation of the labour market and finding jobs for Qatari citizens in the banking sector.

He said high competition between banks was due to several reasons, the most important of which was the strong economic growth enjoyed by Qatar in the past ten years, the large-scale infrastructure projects  and investments within the state and abroad, which contributed to the growth of the banking sector, in addition to the growth of banks’ annual budgets.

HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs said the banking sector is competitive and requires special quality of staff, noting that the ministry is working in co-ordination with other government ministries to find the kind of Qatari citizens who have the necessary qualifications.
