The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has hosted a group of faculty and students from Columbia
University, US.
The group visited Ashghal’s headquarters and selected project sites to share knowledge and hold discussions with
senior Ashghal executives.
In response to a request from the Global Leaders in Construction Management (GLCM) Research Group, Ashghal president Nasser bin Ali al-Mawlawi hosted a delegation from the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University.
The delegates met key Ashghal executives, including Mawlawi, Meshal al-Hitmi, Shared Services Affairs director; Saif al-Kaabi, Human Resources manager; and Abdulla Saad al-Saad, Public Relations and Communications manager.
As part of the visit, the group went on a site visit to witness first-hand Ashghal’s key construction projects, namely the Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City and F Ring Road projects. During the visit, the group was briefed on these major infrastructure projects and gained ground experience in knowing the extent and volume of these projects.
Professor Ibrahim Odeh, director of the Global Leaders in Construction Management Research Group, thanked the president for giving him and the students the opportunity to witness some of the most significant construction projects in the world. He also expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of Ashghal throughout the visit.
Omar al-Rawi, a student of GLCM, said “this is one of the most enriching experiences of my life”. He also expressed a desire to return to Qatar and be part of these projects and Qatar’s growth.
The visit was organised by Ashghal’s Human Resources department as part of its role in supporting Ashghal’s vision of becoming a dynamic, responsive and customer-centric
organisation by 2016.
