Al Arabi climbed to the third spot with 24 points after El Jaish dropped points in what was an eventful yesterday in Qatar Stars League. |
Arabi scored a 3-2 win over Al Sailiya to take three valuable points, while Jaish was done in by an own goal and an Everaldo de Pereira goal as they lost 2-0 at a lowly-ranked Umm Salal.
Qatar’s win over bottom-placed Muaither meant that they are within a point of a top-three spot at 23, while Lekhwiya posted their second win of the week when they beat Al Kharaitiyat 3-1 yesterday.
Sailiya’s Faozi Mubark Ayish opened the scoring in the match in the 16th minute. With some assistance from Abdulrahman al-Hurazzi, Ayish managed to put the ball away from Arabi goalkeeper Rajab Hamza in the top right corner.
Midfielder Abdulaziz Hatim levelled for Al Arabi in the 29th minute. Team-mate Mohamed Malalla al-Kebeisy managed to get the ball through to Hatim, who had a better shot at goal being in the front of the net and who made the most of the accurate pass to slot the ball into the lower left corner of the Sailiya goal.
Later in the first half, Arabi managed to heat up things enough to force a costly error by Sailiya’s Marcelo Tavares Boas.
Arabi had taken a few corner kicks and Sayed Mohamed Adnan had also managed to get a shot at goal before Sailiya goalkeeper Gregory Gomis punched it to safety. With so much happening around, Boas inadvertently touched the ball into his own net to let Arabi go one-up into the half time.
In the 90th minute, Adnan’s 35-yard free-kick did enough to beat Gomis into the net for a 3-1 lead.
Moumouni Dagano pulled one back for Sailiya five minutes into injury time through a penalty but wasn’t enough.
Lekhwiya was trailing 1-0 going into the last ten minutes of their match against Al Kharaitiyat before they managed to pump in three goals for a 3-1 win.
Yahia Kiepi had put Kharaitiyat ahead in the 23rd minute through some assistance from Youssef Kaddioui.
After an uneventful 50-odd minutes, Eric Gerets’ men got their act together.
Karim Boudiaf scored the table-leaders’ first goal in the 80th minute when he got the ball into the lower left corner of the goal.
Nam Tae Hee, who had a first-half shot on goal stopped by Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Khalifa Abu Baker, scored the second one with Boudiaf aiding him.
Sebastian Soria rounded up Kharaitiyat’s misery in the 88th minute with a penalty strike.
In the Jaish-Salal encounter, an Ismail Mahmoud-shot caught defender Abdulla Aish off-guard for an own goal in the 15th minute. In the 32nd minute, Everaldo de Pereira doubled Salal’s lead when he shot into the lower right corner of the net. While Jaish’s Mohamed Muntari scored a goal three minutes into the second injury time, it did little to change the result.
Two goals in quick succession early in the first half help Qatar Sports Club register their 2-1 win over bottom-placed Muaither.
Adriano scored the first goal of the match in the 15 minute before Mousa Majid al-Allaq pumped in another one a minute later to put Qatar ahead 2-0.
Forward Johnson Kendrick pulled one back in the 79th minute but it wasn’t enough as Muaither slumped to their seven defeat in last ten matches.
