Some of the participants in the QA “Think Pink” fun run held in Education City yesterday
Around 100 sport enthusiasts, comprising students, teachers, parents and members of the Qatar Foundation (QF)  community, yesterday took part in a Qatar Academy (QA)  fun run, which concluded a month-long Think Pink campaign organised by students to raise money for breast cancer care.
The 5km run, being held for the first time with plans to make it an annual event, was part of efforts to make the students aware of breast cancer as well as to inculcate in them a culture of sport, co-ordinator Jeanne-Mari Neefs, a maths teacher, told Gulf Times.
During the run, which started and ended at the main entrance to the QA Senior School on Al Luqta Street, children below five years were allowed to ride their scooters, bicycles and skating shoes.
“This Think Pink campaign is part of our school community services and it is being organised solely by students from grades 6-12 with the aim of building in them the spirit of providing support for others in need while also keeping active and healthy,” Neefs said.
Students will later decide whether the  proceeds of QR2,000 realised from the run would be used to help to buy necessary equipment for breast cancer care in support of a hospital in need or donated to a breast cancer organisation.
According to Neefs, during the month-long campaign, students held events including making t-shirts and a banner bearing ‘Think Pink’ inscription and the students’ hand prints to raise money for breast cancer cause.
At the end of the run, participants  took part in a raffle to win a latest iPod touch donated by a parent.
