Ooredoo has updated its Mobile app with a new blocking feature, to enable customers to block marketing messages and spam SMS from Ooredoo registered numbers.
With the new Block SMS in-app activation and management feature, customers can create a ‘block list’ for unwanted SMS marketing.
Spam SMS – unwanted messages from companies looking to promote their services via text message – are a major irritant for customers in Qatar, and Ooredoo is supporting a range of measures to reduce the pressure.
With the new feature, customers can add and remove names from the block list whenever they want. They simply have to download the latest version of the Ooredoo App iOS (1.2.1) or Android (1.3.0), find the block SMS icon and enter the sender ID they do not want to receive messages from.
The new Block SMS feature will currently only stop messages from Ooredoo registered numbers within Qatar. The company is working on a new anti-spam update that aims to block messages from overseas and other operators.
As well as providing the blocking feature, Ooredoo advises customers not to answer calls or respond to SMS from international numbers that they do not recognise, and not to send SMS short-codes to organisations that they do not know. Customers can report a spam number by calling 111.
The update of the Ooredoo app also includes a number of other new features, including an option for automatic log-in, giving user’s more convenience.
There is also an easy subscription option, providing customers with immediate access to services like the International Key and Ooredoo Passport wherever and whenever they need it and removing the need to use SMS codes to sign-up.
