The open space in front of the traffic police station in Mathar Qadeem (Old Airport) has been turned into a dumping ground for vehicles involved in accidents.
At any time of the day, one can see at least half-a-dozen damaged vehicles there. It is learnt that at least one vehicle involved in an accident is brought to the station premises every 5-10 minutes during the office’s working hours.
In the evenings too, residents bring damaged vehicles for getting clearance certificates from the station authorities.
According to the traffic authorities, at least 4,000 major accidents occur every year on the country’s roads, with more than 200 minor crashes daily. More than 200 people died in road accidents in 2012.
