Qatar Airways honoured its high achieving Qatari scholarship students during the annual Excellence Day event, hosted by the airline’s Nationalisation Department for the second consecutive year.
More than 30 students were honoured for achieving excellence in their academics and in their summer internship for 2013.
These achievers will be progressing towards a career with Qatar Airways and nurtured completely by the airline to become future leaders and airline executives.
The Excellence Day event was attended by Qatar Airways chairman and Minister of Finance, HE Ali Sharif al-Emadi, Qatar Tourism Authority chairman Issa Mohamed al-Mohannadi, US Ambassador Susan L Ziadeh, and Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker.
The students were awarded in three different categories - Gold, Silver and Burgundy with a special CEO Award for outstanding achievements, the Platinum Award.
Acknowledging the success of the students, al-Baker said: “Each of them has worked incredibly hard to reach where they are today and have achieved success by applying themselves diligently and making the best use of their talents. This is indeed going to be the foundation upon which they can build their successful career with Qatar Airways.
“As the national airline, we are committed to supporting and developing these young nationals, both men and women, and ensuring they are ready to take on roles at all levels,” he added.
Qatar Airways senior vice president (contracts and procurement) and Nationalisation Committee chairman Mohsen al-Yafei said: “At Qatar Airways, there will be plenty of opportunities for these students to keep growing their skills and knowledge.”
During the event, Qatar Airways also recognised the outstanding mentors and coaches and presented the CEO Platinum Awards in four categories.
The Student Award went to Aisha Mahmoud al-Heidous, the Intern Award to Ali Ibrahim al-Ajail, the Coach Award to Information Technology Department’s business system manager Amir Hussain Naqvi, and the Department Award to the Commercial Department.
Qatar Airways also honoured its employees who have successfully completed the Executive Leadership Programme offered by Airbusiness Academy.
