Philippines’ comedy queen, popular singer and artiste Ai Ai Delas Alas, together with co-comedian Kim Idol, will be performing tonight (Friday) starting at 8pm at the Sheraton Hotel in West Bay.
Dubbed as “Ang Natatanging Ina Niyo,” the show is expected to attract thousands of Filipino expatriates in Qatar.
In a press conference held yesterday, Delas Alas told reporters that she always gives her best shot on stage in front of a huge crowd, especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East.
“I know how it feels to be away from your loved ones for a long time, not only months but years, that is why I really give it all to entertain them, to ease their loneliness and depression,” she said. “They are truly our modern day heroes who sacrifice a lot abroad just to sustain the needs of their respective families and relatives back home.”
Lauding the warm welcome she received from OFWs in Qatar in her arrival on Wednesday, the popular Filipina comedienne has vowed to enthrall the crowd with their antics and style that “every Filipino in Doha would surely ask for more”.
The duo will present a new show similar to what they did in London recently.
Delas Alas and Idol normally engage the audience during the entire show, spontaneously throwing jokes and hilarious talks.
She disclosed that this was her third visit to Qatar: “I was not Ai Ai then (not as popular as today) and then my second visit was in 2005 with Filipino singer Erik Santos”.
Delas Alas was also open about her recent split with her ex-husband Jed Salang. It is learnt that their marriage only lasted 29 days.
Admitting she is still in the healing process, the talented Filipino artiste said she no longer has bitterness in her heart but is learning to move on by being busy with her career.
“Yes I am having some dates but of course I have to do it silently to protect my suitors from being dragged to issues,” she noted, though her aura seemed to reflect the pain she feels about the split.
Like her usual style of making everyone laugh, the comedienne comes up with funny response and remarks from every question thrown to her.
Organisers had announced that they decided to lower the prices of tickets to accommodate more OFWs who want to see the duo’s “one of a kind performance in Doha.” The lowest is QR75 while the highest is QR350.
The show will also feature two local performers: the Beats and Bytes and Extreme Level dancers.
