Vodafone Qatar yesterday presented its vision and experience in deploying “Smart City” applications around the world and how it will bring this to Qatar.

The vision was presented by Vodafone Qatar, which was the Titanium M2M Partner of the Middle East Smart Cities Conference.

Vodafone Qatar has aligned its goals to those of the Qatar 2030 Vision and driving the Smart City deployments in Qatar is a key pillar of its success. Vodafone Qatar is investing now in its business to ensure it is ready for the large metropolitan projects currently being built in Doha, the company said.

Smart City applications focus on the optimisation of multiple parts of a city, from Traffic and Transport flow optimisation to reducing energy usage across a city to drive a green and responsible agenda.

Vodafone Qatar head (business solutions) George Galica discussed Smart City applications and some of Vodafone’s experience in the successful implementations of these applications, which include smart transportation that is an example of Vodafone Qatar and Al Million Taxi’s co-operation to deploy a smart taxi solution and Vodafone’s experience in smart mobility solutions from Europe; smart energy monitoring and reporting through its smart metering projects in New Zealand and smart street lighting in The Netherlands. Intelligent digital signage was shown with eye-catching advertising powered by Vodafone, with thousands of screens across Europe in operation.

“We have the right experience from across the world in the successful deployment of Smart City applications and a network of partners, which are each ready to deploy Smart City applications today, in Qatar to support achieving the 2030 Qatar National Vision,” said Galica.

Vodafone Qatar and NetComm Wireless recently announced a strategic partnership to extend Vodafone Qatar’s fixed and mobile networks to devices and machines, which are used to enable smart city applications.
