Close on the heels of a recent appeal for the intervention of municipal authorities by residents using Doha’s Industrial Area streets, tenants of accommodation located on Street 37 have made a fervent plea, seeking the removal of garbage accumulated in the area.
Speaking to Gulf Times, the area’s residents complained that no garbage has been removed from the densely populated locality for more than a fortnight now.
They said the recent rains had inundated the entire area with sewage water and no pedestrian movement is possible these days. The residents, who are mainly expatriates said the latest developments have caused them considerable hardship as even moving to the immediate neighbourhood was extremely difficult for the tenants of the camps in the area.
Some of them said even though they had brought the issue to the attention of the municipal authorities earlier, no action has been taken to remove the garbage and sewage water from the street, on which several bachelors’ accommodation are located.
Even though municipal garbage trucks are seen moving around in the neighbourhood, none of them visit Street 37 owing to the extremely poor condition of the road, they said. “The  situation has worsened after the rains that lashed the country more than a fortnight ago,” said a resident, who doubted whether timely clearance of sewage tanks is happening in any of the compounds in the area.
A manager of a consumer durables company which has a large storehouse in one of the neighbouring streets said his company officials were tired of complaining to the authorities as no improvements have been made.
While seeking immediate intervention of the authorities in clearing garbage and sewage water from the streets, residents are also hoping that the authorities would urgently carry out the road repairs in the area.
A recent visit to the area found the situation deplorable between Street 36 and 40. Each of the streets face sewage flooding at intervals and vehicles getting stuck in the middle are a regular feature.
An official of a company which has an office on Street 38 said they are planning to shift their office to another street because of the difficulties experienced by trailers in moving along the area.
“Many trailers, including those coming from outside Qatar have got damaged in recent times while moving along the area,” he said.
When contacted, a municipal official said repairing of roads would be carried out in the area soon.
