A delegation of Qatari Businesswomen Association (QBWA) recently visited Al Khor Hospital and toured key departments and facilities there, including its innovative Breastfeeding Programme.
The visitors, led by QBWA vice-chairperson Aisha Alfardan, were greeted by Hamad Medical Corporation’s Corporate Communications department executive director Ali Abdullah al-Khater, along with Media director Hassan al-Hail.
The delegation toured the hospital’s Obstetric and Gynaecology department as well as the Breastfeeding Centre.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department head Dr Husain Sharara said the Breastfeeding Centre is a multidisciplinary approach to the issue of breastfeeding. “The medical team and the hospital’s administration work hand in hand to support and promote the breastfeeding programme,” Dr Sharara said.
Breastfeeding Centre regional co-ordinator and consultant Dr Mohamed Ilyas said since the innovative programme was established in 2009, hundreds of new mothers have been helped.
“Since its inception, our Breastfeeding Programme has provided hundreds of Qatari and resident mothers with world-class clinical services through an experienced team of healthcare professionals, helping them with proper methods of breastfeeding and providing psychological support,” Dr Ilyas said.
Alfardan commended the programme and pledged that the association would support it in any way they could. “We are hopeful it (the centre) will continue to provide Qatari women with the excellent healthcare services they deserve,” she said. “A programme of this quality is highly beneficial to Qatari women and to the community as a whole.”
