Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) has hosted middle and high school students at its annual student recruitment fair – ‘Medicine Unlimited’.
At the event, held at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre, the visiting students were offered the chance to discover the college’s state-of-the-art facilities, take part in interactive demonstrations and learn about careers in medicine.
The students and their parents met with faculty, current students and staff who shared hands-on simulations demonstrating a variety of medical concepts from stalls set up in the
college’s north hall.
This year, there were a total of 20 stalls, with subjects ranging from transplant surgery, anatomy, neurology, paediatrics and research to physics, chemistry,
biology and pathology.
For the first time, the event featured a stall where prospective students could find information about WCMC-Q’s foundation programme to learn about its content and meet with some of the current students.
English writing, library and admissions faculty and staff were also represented to showcase their activities.
As in previous years, Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Diabetes Association were in attendance to offer free health screenings to parents and adult
participants.
This year’s event brought hundreds of visitors to WCMC-Q to discover the academic programmes offered by the college, which has produced 147 doctors since it opened in 2002. ‘Medicine Unlimited’ concluded after a quiz testing the knowledge the prospective students have learnt during the event followed by a prize raffle.
WCMC-Q awards its graduates a US-accredited MD degree, and is the only university outside the US to do so.
In addition to the four-year medical programme, the college also offers a two-year pre-medical
programme.
Dr Rachid Bendriss, Student Recruitment, Outreach and Foundation Programmes assistant dean at WCMC-Q, said: “This is the sixth year we have showcased WCMC-Q’s world-class facilities and programmes to the public with the Medicine Unlimited event, which continues to foster the strong relationship between the college and the wider community. Medicine Unlimited is a great opportunity for prospective students and their parents to explore the college and interact with our current students, staff and faculty, and it was extremely gratifying to welcome so many people to WCMC-Q this year.”
