A senior South Korean academic has said his country has strong relations with Qatar on the political, economic and cultural fronts.
Ambassador Kon Tameon, dean of Education and Training at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), was speaking at a seminar organised by the Diplomatic Institute at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The seminar was titled “Bilateral Relations Between the Republic of Korea and Qatar.”
The KNDA was founded 60 years ago and includes prominent professors and researchers, Tameon said.
South Korea holds Qatar’s leadership and its diplomatic initiatives in high regard, Tameon said, adding Qatar plays an important role in the world.
Tameon called for strengthening ties between the KNDA and the Diplomatic Institute as well as formulating programmes for the exchange of visits between the two sides.
During the session, delegates spoke of bilateral co-operation and trade between Qatar and South Korea, highlighting the need for further expanding relations to include security, education, human resources and cultural activities.
The delegates also stressed Seoul’s support for peace in the Middle East.
At the end of the session, the Director of the Diplomatic Institute Dr Hassan Ibrahim Khamees al-Muhanadi and Tameon exchanged the shields of the Institute and the KNDA.
