Three Qatari brothers, who are competing in the second race of Aspire Zone’s annual Aquathon series today, will be the cynosure of all eyes.

Last year, 14-year-old Noah al-Khulaifi won the junior category, while 12-year-old brother Yacob took first place in the first race of the 2013/2014 edition. This year, they are also joined by their younger brother Yousef.

The race today will mark the second time the aspiring athlete has competed in the series and he is hoping to emulate his older siblings, both of whom are swimmers on the Qatar National youth team, as they aim to make a splash at international level in the future.

The young boys’ mother, commented on the upcoming event, “Noah was at the 2013 FINA World Cup in Singapore last month, so this is the first time the boys are competing together. We are extremely proud of them. They are all really looking forward to racing this Saturday as the Aquathon series is a chance for them to compete against different people in a fun and relaxed environment.”

The Aquathon is not only aimed at budding international athletes, it is also focused on encouraging the local community to participate, regardless of their fitness level.

The Aquathon series is open to both men and women of all ages. It will feature races of varying distance for juniors (8 to 15 years), adults (16 to 39) and veterans (40 and above).

Organised by Aspire Logistics, the Aquathon is part of Aspire Zone Foundation’s wider multifaceted community programme and is designed to encourage residents to adopt healthy living through fun activities.
