Qatar University’s College of Law (LAWC) announced the appointment of an advisory board that will guide the college’s strategic plan, academic and research activities.
The board will also raise the image of the college as the leading law college in Qatar, as well as increase the college’s involvement and efforts in the development of the country’s economy and society.
It comprises high-level members of the legal profession in corporate law organisations, government, and academia, namely HE Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi, Qatar Minister of Justice; Thaqil Alshemmari, deputy to the president of Qatar Supreme Court; Tariq Falamarzi, deputy general counsel, Qatar 2022; Prof Khawar Qureshi QC, head, McNair Chambers; Sultan al Abdullah, managing partner, Sultan al-Abdulla and Partners; Susan B Bastress, managing partner, Patton Boggs; and Prof David Meyer, dean,
Tulane Law School USA.
The advisory board was launched on November 19.
The aim of the advisory board is to align the college’s academic and research strategies with the market needs for the fulfillment of Qatar National Vision 2030; establish community-related projects that will lead to awareness and appreciation of rule of law in Qatar; and explore the development of laws and promote efficient and integrated legal projects in the country.
Commenting on the board’s appointment, Dr Okour said: “This is an important step for the college as it strengthens our commitment to excellence and best practice as the country’s
only college of law.”
