QNB has contributed to the Qatar Solidarity Day campaign by donating QR1mn to Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) in support of humanitarian efforts being undertaken to help the victims of natural disasters in Somalia and the Philippines.
The donation, given as part of the Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, will be used by QRC to supply food, water, medical and tent supplies for the inhabitants of the two countries.
The Qatar Solidarity Day campaign will last for a month and is being co-ordinated by five charities and organisations. Its purpose is to both raise awareness of the scale of the plight in Somalia and the Philippines and raise money for the international relief operation currently under way.
QNB said in a statement that it supports the humanitarian aspirations of the Qatar Solidarity Day campaign and the donation resonates fully with the social and welfare objectives of its CSR programme.
Speaking on QNB’s financial contribution to the campaign, QRC secretary-general Saleh al-Muhannadi said: “This substantial donation from QNB will help our efforts considerably. QNB was one of the first organisations to contribute to the relief efforts and we hope that other organisations will follow their excellent example. We are very grateful for the outstanding support and understanding shown by Qatar’s largest bank.”
