Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker and Rolls Royce President (Aerospace) Tony Wood signing an agreement for Trent 700 engines worth $300mn to power five Airbus A330 freighter aircraft, in Dubai yesterday.
On Sunday Qatar Airways ordered five new Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft with options for an additional eight aircraft in a deal valued at $2.8bn at the Dubai Air Show. Akbar al-Baker said: “We are pleased to select the Trent 700 engine, which has provided excellent performance on our existing Airbus A330 Freighter, along with a support package that maximises aircraft reliability and efficiency.” Rolls-Royce President (Civil Large Engines) Eric Schulz said: “We look forward to further developing our relationship with a valued customer and welcome Qatar Airways’ continued confidence in our Trent technology and ‘TotalCare’ service and support.” The Trent 700, the only engine specifically designed for the A330, is the market leader on the aircraft with a 70% of new orders over the last four years. It is also the most popular Rolls-Royce engine type currently in service on wide-body aircraft, powering more than 530 A330 aircraft with some 58 operators. More than 1,400 engines are either in service or on order.
