Qatar Petroleum’s Industrial Cities Ras Laffan Team (RLIC) beat the Qatar Steel Team in a nail-biting thriller to win the first Qatar Petroleum Industrial Cities Oil and Gas Cricket Tournament which was held last at the Mesaieed Sports Complex weekend.
The tournament, which saw the participation of 20 teams representing Qatar Petroleum’s various directorates and departments as well as the corporation’s joint ventures and subsidiaries, commenced on September 12.
In the final, RLIC won the toss and elected to bat but could manage only 96 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 20 overs. Qatar Steel then found the going tough with four wickets lost in quick succession, but the man of the final and best batsman of the tournament Sufiyan Ahmed from Qatar Steel and captain Jubair Ahmed put up a half-century partnership that brought Qatar Steel close to victory.
However, the man of the tournament and best bowler Mashood Moinudheen from RLIC picked up four quick wickets to bowl Qatar Steel out for 94 with two balls to spare.
The award for best fielder of the tournament went to Ahamed Abdulrahiman of RLIC.
Abdulaziz al-Obaidli, business manager at QP’s Industrial Cities Directorate, accompanied by the organising committee, presented the trophy to Indiika Chandimal, the winning captain of RLIC team.
