One of the salient features of our progressive state is its homogenous mix of communities from various parts of the world.
Any society that desires peace, stability and growth is built on the core and shared principle of equality and mutual respect.
From the outset, Qatar had embraced the very ideals of shared goals and unity of purpose. This unity is unique in the sense that it has diversity, but it blends beautifully to the goal of nation-building and prosperity of citizens and expatriates alike.
Hence, the State of Qatar is a proud host to communities set in a diverse ethnic, race and religious milieu. Yet, they all combine their strengths for harmonious coexistence as they go about the task of contributing to the development of Qatar as well as reaping the fruits of their labour for their loved ones - be it here or back home.
This conducive environment lends itself to mutual benefit, where the expatriate communities are also able to generously contribute remittances back home, which play their part in helping those economies.
On its part, the State of Qatar has always munificently acknowledged the services rendered by the expatriate communities in the development of the country, and actively worked to facilitate them in multifarious ways.
As the country embarks on a massive scale of infrastructural development as it moves to host the 2022 Football World Cup - even though it is still nine years away - it is preparing to recruit and play host to thousands of new expatriate workers from a different mix of communities in the years to come.
The relaxed environment and stable lifestyle is obviously a great attraction, but as stated in the beginning, it all boils down to peaceful inter-community coexistence that contributes to a modern state’s well-being, especially one that desires - and, in the case of Qatar, deserves - a pole position in the international community.
We, at Gulf Times, are proud of our stated policy of fostering and promoting community interaction. As the largest English broadsheet, we are in a position to contribute a positive role towards that much desired goal.
The re-fashioned Community tabloid as a daily supplement is another step in that direction.
