The Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed al-Qassimi, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani and guests at the AUS exhibition

An exhibition, ‘The Beauty of Words,’ being held in collaboration with the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum in Qatar, has been opened at the American University of Sharjah on Sunday.
The Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed al-Qassimi, who is also the president of AUS, inaugurated the exhibition featuring rare and distinctive Islamic artefacts.
In a statement recorded in the museum’s visitor’s book, Sheikh Dr Sultan thanked Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani for sharing a distinguished collection of Islamic art and providing an opportunity to art lovers and enthusiasts in Sharjah and the UAE to view the exceptional pieces.
More than 100 items of Islamic calligraphy are on display. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani expressed his gratitude to the Sharjah ruler for giving him and the museum the opportunity to organise the exhibition.
He praised Sheikh Dr Sultan for his vision, appreciation and vast knowledge of the culture, heritage and history of the region. “This exhibition is a keen reflection of the cooperation between AUS and the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum,” he said.
The exhibition comprises a large number of unique artefacts that include items of wood and stone, metalwork, pottery and glass, textiles and carpets as well as manuscripts. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, one of Qatar’s leading entrepreneurs, is regarded as a key player in promoting the heritage and culture of Qatar.
Sheikh Faisal pioneered the establishment of a heritage venue, with the objective of reviving public interest and appreciation of local culture.
The exhibition will run for a month. Established in 1998, the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum in Qatar aims to preserve and display the different collections of arts and artefacts accumulated by Sheikh Faisal over the years from around the world. It is housed in a specially built premises 20km from Doha.
The exhibits, consists of thousands of pieces, with focus on Middle Eastern and Islamic history and culture, reflecting the interest of the Qatari people in their national heritage and cultural identity.
The museum contains some of the finest and most important examples of Arabic manuscripts, fine arts and weapons and continues to grow as Sheikh Faisal makes selective acquisitions. It is an excellent resource for anyone who seeks a further understanding and knowledge of Islamic civilisation and Qatari heritage.
