The Honda rider Sam Sunderland won both the races of the third round of Qatar International Enduro held yesterday at Sealine in the E2 Category. In the E1 category, Kuwait’s Abdullah al-Shatti won the first race while Le Roy Botha of South Africa won the second. |
Sunderland, led throughout the race, won the first race 3 minutes 23.127 seconds ahead of Mohamed al-Balooshi’s KTM.
“The track was different compared to last weekend, with beautiful views, as the sea and tide is coming into the dunes so it was very nice to see while you are riding,” the Brit said.
UAE rider al-Balooshi was happy to settle for second considering he has not completely recovered from his injury from Bahrain two weeks ago.
Kuwait’s Moaath al-Ansari rounded up the podium on his KTM.
“The race was tougher than last weekend with a lot of tricky corners and section. I am happy to finish in third place after fighting very close with my teammate Saeed Al Shenqiti,” al-Ansari said.
The top three result remained unchanged in the second race of the category too.
The wins lifted Sunderland (100 points) to third position behind leader al-Balooshi (135 points) and al-Ansari (105 points).
In the E1 category, al-Shatti and Botha were locked in close battle for the top spot right till the final corners when the Kuwaiti rider passed the South African for the win. Bahrain’s Hasan Nooraldin finished third.
In the second race, Botha and al-Shatti switched places while Nooraldin took third once again.
The results meant that, al-Shatti leads the category with 137 points with Mubarak al-Ali in second place with 104 points and Barak al-Jasmi third with 103 points.
UAE’s Obaid al-Kitbe won both the races on quads.
At the end of the event, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah thanked all the riders for participating in the event and was happy with the level of the competitors.
The fourth and last round of the season will be on December 7.
