A large number of people thronged the Corniche yesterday afternoon to experience an exhilarating airshow put up by British pilots.
When the parking space at the Corniche park swelled up to the maximum, people simply jumped out of their cars after switching the hazard lights on and parked their vehicles on the side of the road, causing a slight traffic snarl-up.
People from all walks of life and ages had their eyes glued to the skies as they watched the jets do an acrobatic dance. Expatriates and locals, top company executives and even labourers at the Corniche stopped dead in their tracks and looked upwards to the afternoon blue sky.
Everyone had a big smile on their face when the jets made a heart in the sky using their white smoke trails.
The highlight of the show, however, was the superfast Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The jet made several low passes at the crowds on the Corniche who were dazzled by the menacing machine. While the young appreciated the mind-boggling agility of the Typhoon, little children put their hands on their ears and looked frightened, yet happy, to hear the jet’s sonic boom.
Although the show lasted for about half an hour, it left the crowd wanting for more.
Arsalan was at the Corniche with his entire family, including his parents, wife and two kids. He summed up the emotions of everyone present there. “It was simply amazing. I wish they had performed a bit longer, though.”
