The Qatar Indian Football Forum’s (QIFF) has expressed happiness at the wholehearted support extended to its activities by the authorities of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) to the forum’s ongoing 7th Kerala Inter-District Football Tournament.
The QIFF in a statement yesterday said the support extended to their activities by the QSL and local football authorities is a great honour to the forum and it has happened only because of the enormous interest shown to football by members of the country’s Indian expatriate community.
“The support has come as the local authorities are convinced of the liberal patronage to football by the game lovers in the Indian community,” said QIFF president Shamsudeen Olakara. He also explained it is the first time the QSL is extending support to footballing activity in an expatriate community.
To celebrate QSL’s support and association with the QIFF tournament, a musical and cultural show is planned at Al Arabi Stadium this evening.
It would be followed by QSL matches featuring the local clubs and QIFF tournament, involving Kerala teams.
The colourful cultural activities include musical drum beats, traditional cultural forms from Kerala Shinkarimelam, Oppana and Mappilappattu, live musical programme at the stadium.
The entry to the stadium is free. The cultural show starts at 2.30 pm.
