Doha resident C K Menon (pictured) has been appointed vice-chairman of Norka-Roots, a company that falls under the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs Department (Norka) in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

According to a statement from the Norka department, Menon - a lifetime director of Norka-Roots - “is being appointed vice-chairman of Norka-Roots in recognition of his numerous contributions to the welfare of deserving sections among the people of Kerala and also among a large number of Keralites residing in the GCC states”.

In his new position, Menon will enjoy ministerial status and participate in a number of high-level government meetings in the future, according to the statement. LuLu group managing director  M A Yusufali was the first vice-chairman of Norka-Roots and Menon succeeds him.

Menon has been one of the two lifetime directors of Norka-Roots since its inception in 2002.

Expatriate  forums Indian Cultural and Arts Society (Incas) and Thrissur Jilla Souhrida Vedi have hailed the appointment of Menon, who is also president of the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress, to which Incas is affiliated.
