Inspectors seize 220 devices used for hunting birds
The Ministry of Environment has seized 220 devices used for attracting and hunting birds in the northern, southern and central areas of Qatar, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Four hunting dogs were also captured.
Inspectors from the ministry’s Environment Preservation Department, in collaboration with the police, took hold of the devices that are prohibited by law.
The illegal devices are used to attract birds from faraway distances by emitting sounds that perfectly mimic the voice of curlew birds. Use of the devices also causes harm to the ecosystem.
A statement released by the ministry said violators were inventing new types of devices using cans of soft drinks, small radio devices and mobile phones. However, it warned that their inspectors could still detect and capture the culprits.
Also, inspectors in the northern area arrested persons who were hunting in the night and seized their vehicle carrying four hunting dogs.
