Celebrating Qatar’s 40 years of relations with Japan, the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will be participating in ‘Qatar Week: Ferjaan Tokyo,’ the five day celebration taking place in Tokyo from today.
Qatar will also be represented by a host of strategic partners, including the Museum of Islamic Art, Ministry of Culture Arts and Heritage, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassy of Japan in Qatar, embassy of Qatar in Japan, Qatar Airways, Doha Film Institute, Katara, Ministry of Business & Trade, Qatar 2022, Qatar Foundation and Reach Out to Asia.
Ferjan will promote mutual understanding, and appreciation of cultures, traditions and people of Qatar and Japan.
In addition to presenting a set of traditional and cultural activities at its booth, QTA will collaborate with the Ritz-Carlton Doha to present Qatari cuisine to the Japanese audience.
Issa al-Mohannadi, chairman, QTA, said that Qatar Week is a great opportunity to showcase Qatar’s rich culture and its diverse set of offerings to the Japanese community.
“Through the set of activities organised for the week, we will be able to share our heritage and traditions with the nation that appreciates an affluent history.
“The number of Japanese tourists and residents in Qatar has considerably increased over the past few years, and we are certain that the numbers will increase further after the Ferjaan week that is set to celebrate the long friendship and business relation between Qatar and Japan.”
Ferjaan, which means ‘neighbourhood’ in colloquial Qatari Arabic, will feature a 1,500sq m Cultural Village that will showcase modern Qatari culture through a historically representation of a souk, the traditional Arabic marketplace.
The souk will host exhibits from Qatari companies and will showcase a number of cultural projects. Accompanying this will be Qatari entertainment, a number of informative talks and presentations, and a selection of Qatari products.
Over the past 40 years, the strong ties between Japan and Qatar have transformed the relationship into friendship. They have resulted in ever improving educational opportunities, business relations, and increasing cultural exchange.
Qatar-Japan 2012 seeks to celebrate this friendship by showcasing these various elements in a series of activities that range from fashion to the performing arts and cinema to educational exchange
programmes.
