Volkswagen Qatar has launched the new Golf GTI at its first ‘Show & Shine’ event that attracted around 300 Volkswagen fans to the showroom on Salwa Road.
The latest version of Golf GTI, an acclaimed compact sports car, is powered by a turbo-charged petrol, direct-injection engine with 220hp.
The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 244 km/h. The Golf GTI, produced at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg, Germany, has sold nearly 1.9mn units to date across the world, making it the most successful model of its type in the world. Its popularity has been matched across the Middle East with a legion of fans already super enthusiastic about the latest addition.
As a classic with cult status, the Golf GTI systematically combines sportiness and driving fun with the strengths of the Golf into a unique concept of compact sport sedans. The 6-speed automatic gearbox helps achieve fuel consumption of 61 for every 100km, meaning the new GTI offers an 18% improvement in fuel economy compared to the previous model.
Volkswagen Qatar sales and marketing manager Antonio Leal said: “The new Golf GTI is sportier than ever and has been one of the most eagerly anticipated new models for 2013. The Golf GTI has long been a favourite amongst automotive enthusiasts across the Middle East and Qatar with last year’s figures accounting for 60% of all Golf model sales. For all these reasons, the Golf GTI has been nominated for this year’s Middle East Car of the Year under the category of Best Performance Hatchback. Results will be revealed at the end of October.”
