HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met several heads of state and high-ranking officials at the seat of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York.
During his meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, they reviewed ties of co-operation between Qatar and the Commission as well as a number of issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir.
The Emir also met the Joint Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.
During the meeting they reviewed the current situation in Syria and discussed ways to stop the violence there and protect the state institutions from collapsing as well as the role required on part of the friends of Syria to support the Syrian people.
Among others whom the Emir met yesterday were the president of the previous session Vuk Jeremic and the co-chair of the Qatari-American caucus Michael Grimm.
During the meeting, they addressed the bonds of friendship between the two countries and ways of developing them.
On Wednesday the Emir met the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov.
Talks during the meeting dealt with a number of issues of mutual concern.
The Emir also met a number of heads of delegations participating in the 68th Session of UN General Assembly.
Among them were President of Paraguay Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama and Vice-President of Iraq Dr Khodair al-Khuzai.
HH the Emir also met Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister of Malta Dr Joseph Muscat.
