The Cabinet yesterday approved a draft decision to form official committees to settle rental disputes between tenants and landlords.

HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani presided over the weekly cabinet meeting held at the Emiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, HE the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud said the Cabinet discussed topics on the agenda.

The Cabinet also approved a  draft decree law amending some provisions of the draft law No 4 of 2008 concerning real estate rents, Qatar News Agency said.

The amendment aims to ease settlement of disputes arising from a relationship between the lessor and the lessee. The committees are expected to issue decisions  in the shortest time possible, Arabic daily Arrayah said.

“Qatar’s booming population is expected to push the rents of residential and commercial properties up in the coming months. With the surge in rents, there will be a spike in the number of disputes between lessors and the lessees and the committees will help solve such cases easily and quickly than the traditional courts which take more time to decide disputes,” a source said.
