Volunteers pretending to be ‘victims’ look on as firefighters put out a training fire as part of a simulated airplane crash during a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise at Washington’s Reagan National Airport in Arlington yesterday. The exercise, which the airport is required to complete every three years, included a river rescue, support helicopters, a trainer aircraft that was set on fire, 150 volunteer role-players and more than 50 responding vehicles from 13 surrounding fire departments.
