Under the patronage and in the presence of HE the Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Ministry of Interior organised a lecture on ‘Securing the Activities of World Cup 2010 in South Africa’ on Monday in Doha.
From the South African police force, Divisional Commissioner of Operational Response Services Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, head of National Operational Co-ordination Major General Chipu and Section Commander of Major Events Colonel Anand Siva delivered the lectures.
Directors and assistant directors of the departments of the Ministry of Interior attended the lecture.
It was held as a part of security lectures that aim at introducing the factors for the success of operations for securing a major international event and security strategy implemented by South African police.
During the event, the speakers discussed many important subjects such as security equipment, training provided for the World Cup security team, participating teams and agencies in the security system, central operations and control room and communication systems used among the security members.
The resource persons also talked about public safety and security during the World Cup, security provided for VIPs in the airports, hotels, playgrounds, training fields, international broadcasting centres and the security offered for the FIFA delegation, media representatives and all other accredited agencies.
Drafting integrated safety and security strategy at national, regional and domestic level, putting elaborate plans for handling all kinds of situations, developing tactical plans and operational system that suits with the world level event, comprehensive police vision, conducting awareness media campaign for the public and close co-ordination between main security bodies through operation rooms were the main factors for the success of South African World Cup 2010, the speakers stressed.
