Filipino protesters demonstrate near the US embassy in Manila yesterday against the visit by US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel. The protesters condemned Hagel’s visit following the US pledge to increase the presence of American troops in the country. The negotiations between the two countries comes more than two decades after US air and naval bases were shut in the Philippines, and amid territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea.
