South African residents of the flooded informal shack settlement of Masiphumelele wait for food aid distribution in Cape Town, yesterday. More than 3,500 residents living in informal settlements in Cape Town have been displaced due to heavy rains, flooding and gale force winds. Many of the settlements are in low and wetland areas which have little drainage and flood easily. The City of Cape Town’s Disaster management team has been providing relief in the form of food, blankets and shelter for those affected.
