Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has carried out 57 projects worth QR45mn during Ramadan this year.
Implemented in countries across Africa and Asia, besides Qatar, these projects involved various activities, including providing relief and medical/social aid to the needy.
Around QR6,000,000 was allocated for the implementation of various projects in Qatar during the holy month. These included providing support to needy families, Iftar, medical and religious services, lectures held after Taraweeh prayers, Zakat al-Fitr, food vouchers, distribution of food, the Mawada project, Eid clothing, social programmes, honouring outstanding students and “This is my wish” project, which helped realise the dreams of ailing children. The projects benefited around 92,000 people.
QRC carried out Iftar projects worth around QR4mn in various countries and regions, including Palestine (Jerusalem), Lebanon (camps of Palestinian refugees), Yemen, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, China, Sri Lanka, Niger, Somalia, South Sudan, Darfur, Chad, Comoros and Syria.
QRC’s Iftar project in Jerusalem, valued at QR165,000, was divided into two parts - distribution of meals in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque and providing food baskets to needy families.
In Pakistan, QRC’s Iftar project was carried out for the benefit of 1,455 poor families (10,185 people), including vulnerable individuals such as widows, the elderly, children, people with disabilities and others. The project cost QR165,000 and covered 20 villages.
QRC also carried out an Iftar project in Niger, distributing food baskets for the benefit of 1,286 families. In Sudan, it provided food to 1,300 families (6,500 people) in Corti village of West Darfur.
QRC allotted QR1,204,500 for breaking-the-fast projects in Syria, where it provided 15,000 food baskets to families in camps for the displaced.
