HE the  Minister of Environment, Ahmad Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi, has visited  the ExxonMobil Research Qatar (EMRQ) along with  Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs Dr Rashid Ahmed al-Kuwari and other officials from the ministry.
“The Ministry of Environment has the responsibility to lead the State of Qatar in balancing its social and economic development needs while protecting the environment,” al-Humaidi said. “Only through the successful collaboration with our industry partners can this be accomplished.  I thank ExxonMobil for their hospitality, but more importantly, for the work they are doing to progress an ambitious environmental management programme that aims to support a growing industry in a sustainable manner.”
Bart Cahir, ExxonMobil Qatar Inc president and general manager  said: “At ExxonMobil, we are immensely grateful for the opportunities granted over the years to work in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, and I extend my most sincere congratulations to HE al-Humaidi on his esteemed position. We will continue to work closely with the Ministry to address the challenge of sustainability, balancing economic growth, social development and environmental protection so that future generations are not compromised by actions taken today.”
EMRQ director Andy Wigton welcomed the minister and  briefed him on  various research programmes through which ExxonMobil scientists and researchers are developing the scientific knowledge needed to better understand environmental risks from industrial activities.
In addition to its environmental research, EMRQ is also conducting research on water reuse. The programme was launched in recognition of the challenges of water resource management in an arid region and the desire for more efficient treatment and re-use options for industrial wastewater.
