Qatar Olympic Committee secretary-general HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah pose before cutting a cake to celebrate al-Attiyah’s bronze medal at Bayt Qatar in London yesterday

Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) secretary general HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani said yesterday that Nasser al-Attiyah’s bronze medal in Olympic skeet was “thanks to the strong backing of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani”.
Speaking on the sidelines of Bayt Qatar’s honouring of al-Attiyah, the secretary general also said that the medal was a result of the hard work put in by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association.
Sheikh Saoud congratulated al-Attiyah and the Qatari people for the Olympic victory.
Bayt Qatar, located in central London, is the official Olympic House for the Qatar Olympic Committee.
Meanwhile, British ambassador to Qatar, Michael O’Neill, has congratulated al-Attiyah on winning his first Olympic medal.
In a message to QOC, O’Neill said: “Just a quick note to congratulate you and all your colleague at QOC, and of course Nasser himself, on Nasser al-Attiyah’s Olympics bronze medal.”
He added: “I was delighted at this result, in view of the extensive efforts of the State of Qatar to promote sport here. Please pass on my congratulations to Nasser and to Sheikh Saoud and your other QOC colleagues.”
It was al-Attiyah’s maiden medal at the Games and Qatar’s third bronze overall.
