Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed along major intersections in Manila to ensure that motorists will adhere to traffic rules, according to Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.
“Any traffic violation will be recorded on a CCTV camera, and the vehicle will be identified through its plate number,” Moreno said.
A traffic citation ticket will be mailed to the registered owner of a particular vehicle for payment of the corresponding fines at the Manila City Hall, he added. City Hall officials will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office to establish the identity of the owner of a vehicle involved in a traffic violation.
The use of CCTV cameras is in line with the “no contact traffic implementation” that Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada wants to be enforced in the country’s capital.
