As a prominent stakeholder in the energy and industry, Qafac is playing a significant role in sustainable development in the country, said general manager Nasser Jeham al-Kuwari at the launch of the company’s 2012 sustainability report.
“Contributing to the development of the downstream economy is not enough; we seek to achieve the development in the most environmentally efficient and friendly manner possible,” he said.
The general manager said that Qafac’s approach to business excellence is strongly aligned with Qatar’s National Vision (QNV 2030) and Qatar’s National Development Strategy NDS 2011-2016.
The report was developed with the intention of providing a transparent overview of the company’s performance, conscientiously measuring and communicating the results to its stakeholders.
“Going a step further, we hope the report will serve as a tool to engage all stakeholders on our strategy and sustainability ambitions,” said al-Kuwari.
He also mentioned the major initiatives taken up by Qafac to promote clean energy and committing to achieving sustainable growth with innovative ideas.
While congratulating Qafac on its sustainable development industrial reporting (SDIR), director of Qatar Petroleum’s HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate Saif S al-Naimi said that it would go a long way in making further developments in the whole issue.
The SDIR Programme was established in 2010 with the purpose of enhancing sustainability in the sector and optimising its contribution to Qatar.
Al-Naimi also thanked Qafac on effectively meeting all required sustainable development indicators and to be a more transparent company regarding community engagement, sustainable development and environment protection.
Al-Naimi thanked Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada for his leadership, guidance and support of the SDIR Programme.
He explained that as per al-Sada’s instructions, it is now mandatory for all the companies in Qatar’s energy and industry sector to participate and contribute in the programme.
The report launching ceremony took place recently at Qafac head office and was attended by senior members of its management as well as a delegation from Qatar Petroleum’s HSE Regulation and Enforcement Directorate.
